Treating Varicose Veins

Veins are vessels that carry blood from your body’s tissues to your heart. Standing and walking creates extra pressure, sometimes resulting in swollen (varicose) veins in the legs and feet. Varicose veins can be very embarrassing for some people, causing them to never show their legs or feet in public. They also come with physical discomfort in some cases and may even result in more serious conditions.

Visibly dark veins are a bodily signal that there is an abnormal flow of blood, causing extra pressure. Symptoms that are a cause for concern include aching, pain, heaviness, fatigue, itching, burning, throbbing and swelling. Varicose veins are a common problem, however there are certain factors that increase your risk for experiencing them. Some examples are age, gender (women are more susceptible), pregnancy, being overweight and leg trauma.

We like to keep a close eye on our patients’ dark veins because they can cause blood clots, skin ulcers or other problems. If necessary, we can provide a laser treatment that helps the blood flow reroute to healthy veins with no down time. Dr. Allen of Advanced Radiology Group was the first to perform laser ablation of varicose veins in Nebraska. We Are also the only group in the country to have been awarded the AngioDynamics EVLT award Excellence for three consecutive years in 2009, 2010, and 2011 for outstanding success in laser vein treatments.
